Gray boards brought back without furring the wood

Deck Restoration

A gray deck is not worn out, it is dirty and UV-weathered. Cleaned correctly, most decks come back far enough that replacement stops being the conversation.

Cleaning wood is not cleaning concrete

Too much pressure on softwood tears the grain and leaves it furry. It looks acceptable wet and terrible once it dries, and sanding is the only fix.

Decks get a wood-safe cleaner, controlled pressure and a technique that follows the grain. The gray lifts, the wood does not.

Pressure-treated, cedar and composite

Pressure-treated pine is the most forgiving. Cedar and redwood are softer and need lower pressure. Composite does not need much pressure at all — it needs the right cleaner for the mould that grows in the surface texture.

If you are staining or sealing

Cleaning is step one and the schedule matters. Wood needs to dry fully — usually a couple of days of decent weather — before anything goes on it. Sealing a damp deck traps moisture and the finish fails early.

Say so when you book and we will time the clean around your staining plan.

Deck Restoration

Questions we get.

Can a gray deck really come back?

Usually, yes. Gray is surface weathering and dirt, not structural failure. Boards that are soft, splitting or rotting are a different matter, and we will tell you if that is what we find.

Do you stain or seal decks?

We clean and prepare. If you are having it sealed, we will coordinate timing so the wood is properly dry when the finish goes on.

What about the railings and stairs?

Included. Railings, balusters, stairs and the fascia board all get cleaned with the deck surface.
